Act of Uniformity leaf.
Title
Act of Uniformity leaf.
Subject
England and Wales. Act of Uniformity 1662
Description
Original leaf dated 1688 A.D. Book of Common Prayer dated 1688 during reign of King James II. The Act of Uniformity came into operation August 24, 1662. Two thousand ministers refused to observe the rites and subscribe to the doctrines of the Church of England and were excluded from communion and deprived of their offices _ actually King James II was hoping to restore Popery [sic] to the place it formerly held in England as the established religion of the country.
The original books from which the leaves were taken were collected and disbound by Stanley Slotkin in the 1960's. Slotkin produced display sheets and distributed individual book leaves to institutions and collectors. Display sheets were removed prior to storage at MSMULA. Mention of MSMULA donation occurs in May 10, 1960, issue of The View campus newspaper.
