Mount Saint Mary's University Special Collections consist of rare books and early editions of the Bible, theology treatises, devotional works and Classical writings, as well as 18th, 19th, and 20th century art books and literature. Some of the holdings were once part of the extensive collections of Estelle Doheny and Edward Laurence “Ned” Doheny, Jr.

The MSMU Special Collections also holds a notable collection of books by and about Bl. John Henry Cardinal Newman.

The university archives holds selected records from administrative, academic, social and cultural sources at the Chalon and Doheny Campuses. Record series date from the foundation of the Mount in 1925 to the present. In addition to textual records, archival series include photographs, flyers, clippings, scrapbooks, yearbooks, programs and catalogues. Along with this primary source material we have various histories of the college and its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

Of special note is an extensive collection of historical materials relating to Chester Place in the West Adams district of Los Angeles, present home of the Mount's Doheny Campus.
